2004
In December a mother of 3 from Delaware County called because
she needed coats and snow pants for her children. Since they did
not qualify for help through the Oneonta Clothing Guild, we were
able to find all the items she needed right from our Clothing
Room and from the saved items in the basement. Coats and snow
pants had been saved in the basement throughout the year for
just such an occasion.
In early December, an Oneonta couple with 3 children and a baby
on the way came in for help with getting snow pants and boots
for their children. The father had lost his job and their only
income came from both the parents of the mother and father. They
were able to get new snow pants and boots for their two school
aged children and found snow pants and boots for their little
one in the Clothing Room. This family was also chosen to be
adopted for Christmas because Dad's layoff came unexpectedly
during the holiday season.
A mother of 6 children moved back to Oneonta from Georgia to aid
her sick mother. She had gotten rid of most of their warm
clothing when she left NY, and so now needed to find warm
clothing for all 6 children. She was able to find her children
coats, snow pants, and boots, She found everything she needed
with the exception of two pairs of boots! This mom was extremely
grateful for all these items. She said they had spent all their
money on their recent hurried move and only packed what they
could fit in their car, which Wasn't much considering they had 6
children in the car.
In February, a young girl who was staying in a group home
through Trillium Place came in to get clothes with a staff
member. Sec was thrilled to be able to find some things that fit
her, but she was badly in need of bras and could not find any in
the clothing Room. Since she was living in Oneonta, and
registered to go to Oneonta Middle School, the Oneonta Clothing
Guild was able to purchase three new bras for her.
In March, a young girl who resides at the upstate Home for
Children and Adults was able to get clothing she needed to begin
an internship at Opportunities for Otsego. She came in with her
mother and a worker to fill Out a new card and look for some
nice clothing she could wear. Her worker had called in advance
and said she had trouble finding things to fit her because of
her size and asked if we could help her look. We were able to
Save her some nice things, and in addition, she was able to pick
several things out for herself when she arrived with her mother.
She was also able to get hygiene supplies so that she could feel
clean and confident while at work at her new internship.
